A New Chapter In Kenya’s History

27 Nov

It was the other day that it actually drawn to me that another chapter of Kenyan history is being written.  I was going through my personal stuff when i come across a Kenyan flag i had bought at Uhuru park during the promulgation of the new constitution, i was there when it all started.

The day was a Friday27/08/2010, the weather was perfect for such a glorious occasion, God of all creations  was truly with us that day, to bless this our land and nation. The joyous face of our chief of general staff Major Gen. Kiaga, represented the feeling that was being shared across the great historical grounds. The 21 gun salute  was like a beautiful patriotic harmony shaking every Kenyan to a new awakening. The military parade was colorful but i guess its about time we come up with something better to replace the Traditional dancers and this so called university’s choir, we should let them come to national celebrations in their personal capacity like everybody else. And, for the shake of our national pride never again call local musicians to any national occasion of such importance.

The other thing is this obsession with being too religious, can someone tell me why we need a Masai elder, a bishop, a cardinal, an Imam and a pastor to pray for one gathering. It was a shame to see those men of cloth being booed by people desperate to have a new law. In my personal opinion, the words in our national anthem are a very powerful prayer that will Keep Kenya prospering for ages to come, [unless the members of parliament want to change them].

The guest’s list was the most interesting part that carried the day,President Museveni is my hero but on that day i was shouting on top of my lungs asking him to hand back an island somewhere in lake Victoria, but it was all in a celebration mood, he would rather keep Migigo before some employer decide to post me there as a correspondent,  i have this sea phobia that has seen me avoid coast vacations with my kids.

The ex-soldier turned president; Mr. Paul Kagame of Rwanda was also in attendance in his trade mark spectacles, I used to think that people are thin because of lack of enough food, but i don’t think this guy is starving. maybe he has low appetite but whatever , his presence graced the VIP dais.

Also in attendance were this two leaders i can’t tell their difference, I used to think back from my primary school days that Zanzibar was the Mombasa of Tanzania; but on that day, there was a leader for the Bongo land and another for the Swahili nation.

Finally, there was this other guy who gives the  ICC prosecutor Moreno Ocampo sleepless nights, President of Sudan El-Bashir  come like a fighter he truly is and his presence at the grounds just proofed to Kenyans how powerful this new set of laws truly is.

The circus ended when  president Kibaki took the podium, i was watching his face on the big screen as he took the oath of office and believe me when i say, this man was not mincing his words, He meant every word that come out of his mouth. He swore by the almighty God to protect the new constitution and he is doing exactly that, The likes of the former minister for higher education, ex-Nairobi mayor, and the water minister are going to find it very different this time round.

As for my good friends the traffic cops, who order their Juniors to crackdown on our investments, your days are numbered. This man for central Kenya is not going to seat back and let you spoil his good reputation. January is just around the corner, We in the transport sector are willing to change, Are you?
